It’s been a little over a year since Christine Lee’s mom passed away in a tragic car accident. Now her dad is engaged to Candace–”The Bimbo”–and Christine couldn’t be less thrilled. When her attitude starts to take a toll on her schoolwork, the administration forces her to attend counseling sessions. At least she gets to skip gym class!
But with her father’s wedding inching closer, Christine is growing even more bitter. To make matters worse, the Miracle Girls are beginning to drift apart. Christine’s anger and the pressures of high school threaten to break the girls up when they need each other the most. Will they find a way to join together to help Christine come to terms with her mother’s death . . . and her father’s remarriage?

Still mourning the loss of her family in a tragic accident, Lillian Diamon finds herself drawn back to the Rose House, a quiet cottage where four years earlier she had poured out her anguish among its fragrant blossoms.

She returns to the rolling hills and lush vineyards of the Sonoma Valley in search of something she can’t quite name. But then Lillian stumbles onto an unexpected discovery: displayed in the La Rosaleda Gallery is a painting that captures every detail of her most private moment of misery, from the sorrow etched across her face to the sandals on her feet.

What kind of artist would dare to intrude on such a personal scene, and how did he happen to witness Lillian’s pain? As the mystery surrounding the portrait becomes entangled with the accident that claimed the lives of her husband and children, Lillian is forced to rethink her assumptions about what really happened that day.

A captivating novel rich with detail, Rose House explores how the brushstrokes of pain can illuminate the true beauty of life.

With the health problems I am having right now, it makes me wonder if they are “modern day” illnesses or if I were to look at ancestry dna I would find that I was doomed to be going through what I’m going through right now. I know the weight issues are most definately modern day choices and a life time bad eating. But, do I carry a gene that goes back for generations that would cause me to struggle with this no matter what I have done over the years? I know its not as simple as that, but it does make you wonder what all is “now” stuff, and what we can trace back to our genetic makeup. Just one of the many questions I have about my life and what I am the way I am.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Having been raised in a large Italian family with a great sense of humor, she has much to draw from for developing quirky characters.

She loves sharing her secrets for story starters at Young Author events, helping to spark the imagination of young minds. Renee and her husband live in Richland, Washington, with their three daughters, a dog, a cat, and until recently, her beloved hamster—may she rest in peace.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A. J. Degulio loved the idea of a visit to the Old Country… until her family decided to stay. It’s 1972 and she’s turning fourteen in a crumbling castle on a hill in Tuscany, wishing she were back in Idaho with her beloved dog, Sailor. In Italy, her blonde hair makes her stick out like a vanilla wafer in a box of chocolate biscotti, and she’s so lonely her best friend is a nun from the local convent.

The challenges of roots and relatives are nothing new to A. J., but she’s going to need more than the famous Degulio sense of humor to survive. Can’t anyone see that Italy isn’t really home? It will take a catastrophe - and a few wise words from a friend - for A. J. to understand that sometimes the only thing you can change is your perspective.

John Tilden’s glory days are far behind him, and now it seems like all he has is the monotony of everyday living. He certainly thought there’d be more to it than his ramshackle Oklahoma farm and a mundane job coaching basketball at his old high school. He questions his fatherhood skills too: His oldest son won’t speak to him, his younger son wants to quit the basketball team, and now his daughter wants to go out on dates. He loves his wife, but the marriage has settled into complacency.

With John’s twentieth high school reunion approaching, he has agreed to play in an exhibition game with the old championship team. And his ex-girlfriend’s back in town, newly single. What might have been now seems closer than ever.

Its a weird situation, but its all good. I won’t say it was a “Donald Trump” moment. My boss didn’t look me in the eye and say “You’re Fired”. Matter of fact, I was the one who approached the subject, because the man who is hard to tie down to any given moment in the office, you take advantage of the time when he is there. He was newly married last year (3rd marriage), and he really wants his new wife more active in the trucking company. Plus, they are needing to cut expenses, and he doesn’t have to pya his wife. He and David have talked about me not working there extensively. David and I have talked about it. David and I were on the same page, and not working out there with David is fine. I have other sources of income (working at the church in the morning, as well earning money on the computer).

And, if worse comes to worse, I feel like I could look at some other online choices, and take an online training course — something like medical coding training courses that you see advertised. My ex-daughter-in-law and her sister have gone through some similar classes, and they have put alot of hard work and time into their classes. They are nearing the end, so I am curious to see what happens with them. If they are successful with it, then it is something I will most definately check into as well. With all the health issues I have been lately, being a “work-at-home-mom” would be perfect.

Ahhh…well, OK, a “work-at-hom-woman”. I am losing the “mom” status this summer. I won’t quit being a mom - I’ll always be a mom, to all 5 of my kids. But my “baby” graduates in a few short days, and then will probably will be moving out into his own place shortly after that. Thats when I lose my “at-home-mom” status. Its going to be hard cutting the cord, but we can do it. I know we can.

I recieved my first Facebook request to be friends from a classmate earlier this week. She wasn’t in my class, but she did attend the same school I did until they moved when she was in high school. With our classes only be 18-20 students each, you would think I would remember her. She was only 5 years older than me. But, I sure don’t, and for that I do feel bad. Thinking about classmates and high school, takes me back to those years. In some ways, I would love to go back and do things differently. Knowing what I know now. But in another ways, I wouldn’t wish to go back to those years for anything. Looking back, I was thin enough, but I didn’t think so at the time. And natural acne treatment … I don’t remember having anything like that available. Just these rubbing pad things that burned when you used them. But, then I wasn’t much into makeup and facials and such, and so maybe natural products were available, I just wasn’t aware of them. It was such a long time ago.

Ethan is wanting a computer for graduation, so I have been surfing websites for various different computers. The obvious choice would probably be a laptop, but I did come across netbooks, and I wasn’t sure what they were. I know laptops are often referred to as notebooks. But what is a netbook? Upon further research, I found out that it is small light weight, low cost, highly portable, energy efficient alternative to a full sized laptop. Because he likes to play games on whatever computer he’s on, I’m not sure a netbook would be the best choice for him. But, in light of not working afternoons now, I would love to go to the park or other quiet, secluded places around town, and take a computer with me. Taking a netbook sounds like just the thing for what I would be doing. We won’t be so tacky to give Ethan a used computer, if that is what we decide to do. But when (if) we look at a laptop for him, I definately want to check out a netbook for me and see if it is something I would utilize.
